ps-1 update
Posted by CB&Q on Sunday, January 9, 2005 3:08 PM
I tried replacing the batts with radio shacks 9.0 v charged for 15hrs but loco still refuses to enter reset state when power is first applied it goes directly to engine sounds will not accept # 18 reset or even any other only plays engine sounds& cab chatter. what should I try next?? would getting the chip unscrambler be a good start point? also I have same f-3 in rock island could I exchange the top board out from the rock unit to see if that is the problem or could it get messed up as well? I also wired z-4000 direct to a temp track so I could use its programing features but loco no likes it either!!!!!!!! If top board swap works that should verify it's the problem child correct? thx for any advice.[V]

stpaul,

Does the loco operate? I ask because your writeup sounds like you are trying to immediately do a reset.

Do you get the two dings and then loco sounds when first powered up?

no sir no 2-dings it goes directly to diesel engine sounds. I don't think it ever goes to reset upon turning power on at first. engine does not respond to any transformer commands if you cycle dir button lite goes on&off but never moves an inch. after awhile short while actually the cab chatter sounds but nothing else.

stpaul,

Sounds like you may have to try the unscrambling operation.

Sorry I cannot help you with board swaps as I have not ever messed with it in PS1 (I do not have that many PS1 locos).

BTW - you may want to measure and check out your batteries in your other locos.

stpaul,

When you pulled the old chip - make absolutely sure all the contact pins in the chip socket and on the chip being installed are lined up nicely. The pins can get misaigned and one has to be very careful with these devices. Take a close look at the installed chip to see if all the pins look "right."

I also assume you were very careful to make sure the chip was aligned correctly (i.e. pin 1) with the socket upon installation of the "unscrambler" chip.
