Maybe they didn't have a picture?  No problem, I can help.

Here's a Unique Art 1950.  http://www.robertstrains.com/Unique.htm

Here's a 742.  http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/unique-art-line-mfg-co-train-engine-1830032987

CTT might have gone to these sites as well but there might have been copyright issues involved.  Posting a link is OK, posting a copyrighted picture without permission or a $$$ payout can get you in trouble.

Case of the Missing Steam Engine

CTT Vol. 33 No. 2 February issue contains an interesting article entitled, "Marx goes longer with the 994 steam engine".  There are pictures of

  • a most detailed preproduction model
  • the most desirable with its tender from the Mickey Mouse Meteor set
  • a black one with tender with the Nickel Plate Road name
  • a red one with tender with the Nickel Plate Road name
  • Southern Packfic Lines one with tender

According to the article, the main reason Marx went "longer with the 994 steam engine" is because the Unique Art Manufacturing Co. had just produced a longer steam engine than Marx's longest, the 898.  The Unique model was produced in two versions:

  • no. 742 windup for two-rail track
  • no. 1950 electric for 3-rail track

That's all fine and dandy, but wouldn't it have been nice if the article had provided pics of those Unique engines?  Am I the only one who turned the page expecting to see pics of it before realizing the article only had two pages?  Should the title have been made just a tiny bit smaller to allow at least one small pic of one of the Unique steam engines?  I know I can search for pics of it on-line, but why would CTT leave readers hanging that way?
