LRRC Western Union Series
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, January 6, 2005 8:26 PM
The caboose was the latest release by the LRRC to the Western Union set.

Does anybody know if there is a plan for an engine?

I have been collecting these cars. In the 90s the Lionel Club also released a new car once a year. It took the whole decade to complete the set. The engine was released in 1999. So if they keep this series going the same way, we will see the engine in 2009. Being the time period of this set, I would say it will be a steam engine, just a guess.
So far 5 cars down, 3 more to go, and then an engine.

How many cars were offered in the LRRC Western Union> I have 5 but I understand there was a sixth that was a dining car but I was told that MTH made the car. that doesn't seem correct, especially that it is a Lionel sponsored club, not like LOTS or LCCA, There is a Berkshire now being offered as part of the set. It can obtained via the Lionel web site.

LRRC is currently taking orders for a Western Union locomotive. They are offering a Berkshire. Order taking ends sometime in April, I believe. I think the cost of the Berkshire is $199.

The following Western Union cars have been offered by the LRRC in the following past issues of the club's Inside Track magazine:

6-36521 searchlight caboose (Fall 2004--issue 106) still can be ordered
6-26165 material car (Spring 2004--issue 104) also called "woodside reefer"
6-19695 (water) tank car (Spring 2003--issue 100)
6-19685 dining car (Spring 2002--issue 96)
6-19994 sleeping car (Spring 2001--issue 92) this car is also known as the "Camp Car" and "Pass Car Baby Madsn LR"
6-19992 tool car (Spring 2000--issue 88)

Hope this helps, ***
