I purchased an AF 755 Talking Station about 15 years ago and have finally gotten around to trying it out. The record player works great but I am having trouble getting it to stop the train correctly. It works the opposite of what it should. When I push the button to start the record the train continues past the station. When the record stops the train stops at the station and will not continue until I press the button to start the record again. I have the insulated pins in the correct place and I am positive that I have wired the station correctly. I have also checked the internal wiring with other talking stations at a train show so I don't think that could be the problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
the White wire goes to your insulated section. (at least 2 tracks but 3 works better.) If it doesn't stop when you hit the button before the train gets to the section, it could be 2 things. 1) your voltage is too high and it has enough momentum to override the resistor for the block. 2) the contact fingers in the station could be bent out of shape or mis-aligined. The metal drum contacts on the shaft could be loose and stuck in a backwords operation like you describe. You didn't state if you had the 755 or 755A station. the 2nd has the resistor. the 1st doesn't.
Thanks for the reply. My station is the 755 station. Two questions:
1. How would I know if the contact fingers are bent or mis-aligned. They don't appear to be bent.
2. I am not sure what you mean by the metal drum contacts. I can see the metal drum but where would the contacts be?
some would bend them to get better contact. I have seen others in trying to clean them bend them back to far from the contacts. Th e metal drums have set screws on them. if loose then the timing goes out of wack. the metal contacts are the brass/copper fingers that ride on the copper drum.
