Searching This Forum
Posted by eyenet on Monday, December 2, 2019 9:55 AM

Hello...I am new to this forum and I am wondering how to search it for information on 1950s Marx trains.  When I try to use the "Search the Community" tab, nothing I enter gives any results.  I have tried such simple things as Marx, Lionel, dockside etc. to no avail.  I would appreciate some direction as to how this function works.  Thank you

To be honest, the search feature doesnt work well.  If you post what information you are looking for members will respond.  And sometimes old threads get revived or someone will post a link for you.  Just let us know what you are seeking.

It doesn't work well, and now it doesn't seem to work at all.  I couldn't get a single hit on anything I searched for, including the very common word, "the".

You're right--I just typed in the search term "Lionel," and nothing showed up in the results. !

Rene, "Coming Events" under "Resources" isn't working either, it comes up "Page Not Found" and has done so for the past week.

Frustrating, it's been an excellent tool to look for upcoming train shows and other rail-related events.

I have been a member of this forum since 2004 and have read many complaints on how this software does not work for this or that. There was a major change in the software many years ago and after that it lost the spell check feature. For a month or more last year, I was not able to log on. Normally at this time of year this forum is packed with newbies asking questions and old timers helping out. Looks pretty slim this year. It reflects badly on the Kalmbach Company.

BTW, I tried the search feature, too. Nothing.

You nailed it Buckeye. I have been here since 2011 and have seen the same. Just make sure they pay those CEOs and dump on the people that do the work,as in BK. This is the worst software I have ever seen, and to think they must of paid for it???

The mag is smaller every month and the issues are less with the price higher, they wonder why no one wants to put adds in their rag and all you got to do is look at it and the site to know. So sorry but so true. Sorry if there are words mis-spelled... Laugh   Done with my My 2 Cents and SoapBox

It is too bad because I love this hobby.

Kevin and the rest, I've been here since April 2005. I have all but stop posting on this forum because of the hardware. There use to be able to do a chat thing from the forum to those who where on line at the time, and you could see who was on line. Then they got rid of that and ever since this forum has gone down hill. I think the biggest lost of people happened back in June 2013, when they lock the forum for a week. After that happened I think only about 25- 35% came back. This forum took even another hit after that, when the did a upgrade and about a year later another to this one.

I understand the first one I was talking about, was obsolete hardware and was getting very hard to keep with new upgrades, But out of the Three forums I go to, this is the worst. Sorry CTT There isn't enough going on here to keep me here and keep posting, I stop in everyday to read whats going on in the coffee pot and see what else is new but there really isn't that much.

I checked "Resources" again, and except for "Community," "Magazine Index," and "Webcams," nothing  works, all come up "Page Not Found."

I believe I read that Kalmbach knows the issues and that a major upgrade is due early in the new year.

you can always use google to search a specific site using the site: keyword

site:cs.trains.com lionel

and you can also preface a search term with "-" to exclude those sites

Everyone: I feel your pain. We staffers use the tools here much like you to answer questions, research articles, etc.

An upgrade is indeed coming. We don't know when in 2020 but things will be changing.

Thanks Rene!

I don't know if you folks have your own in-house IT people, or if you out-source it, but it it's the latter you're sure not getting your money's worth.

A suggestion, when and if you folks upgrade make it an "https" secure website.  I'm not particularly bothered by the website heading saying "Not secure," but better safe than sorry, you know?

Add posting pictures function more easily. People love pictures and this forum would do so much more traffic I believe if pictures were easier to insert.

Thanks to all for the quick responses to my question about how to use the search function in this forum. . What I was wanting to know was whether or not a Marx 333 steamer will go around 027 Marx track curves or whether a greater radius is necessary. I wanted to know before I bid on one of these locomotives that I saw online.

You might do better asking the question in the forum. But I do believe your answer is yes, it will.
