Lionel Coal Tender - HELP!?!?!
Posted by sandielf on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 10:09 AM

Ok, so my FIL was recently talking about his Lionel train set and mentioned the only one he needed was the coal tender. I went on ebay and found quite a few... so many in fact that i'm now completely lost!  Which coal tender would be the best to get? O model's, post or pre-war? There are so many!!!!!  1689T, o/o-27 257t, O gauge slope.... it goes on and on!

Please tell us the number on the engine, that way we can suggest the best ones. also as another help so we are sure please include the number on one of the cars so we can tell if it's prewar or post war

Welcome to the Forum.

The best way to narrow down your choices is to first identify your FIL's locomotive. Typically the Lionel locomotive number would be affixed to each side of the locomotive cab. A Google search of Lionel, along with the locomotive number, will, in most instances, present several sites, one of which will generally indicate the proper tender.

Thank you!!!  Thanks for the reply and help! We are going to see if we can find it without involving him. Was hoping it would be a surprise.
