Gantry Cranes and modifications
Posted by mgbbob on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 9:03 AM

On a whim last night I purchased a what looks to be an in box 12922 gantry crane.  I had a post war one years ago and it frankly never worked very well.  Wiring was cracked and just didn't work right.  I don't believe this comes with a magnet so I am interested in adding one if possible and maybe mobilizing the gantry.  I don't see much out there but I am probalby looking in the wrong place.  Thanks,  Bob

Hi folks,  I received the 12922 Ganty Crane as advertised.  NIB but the hook up and down didn't work.  The motor ran but no up and down.  I went ahead and disassembed the unit.  The small o-ring had dried out and broken.  I checked on the Lionel site and it said no serviceable and parts not available.  I remembered I had ordered some extra traction tires and went to the parts bin.  A bit wider and maybe a bit less in diameter but it fit on and the unit is back working great.  Don't believe Liionel.

I am still looking for a new or used electromagnet.  I have seen some but the wiring looks pretty bad.  Can one replace the wiring uup to the magnet?  Any sources for new ones????  Thanks,  Bob
