Dave, in his article, "Lionel's no. 440N signal bridge", on page 29 of the May 2013 CTT, Roger Carp describes "signal heads with five bulbs each", while you report that yours has four bulbs, and he writes that "Lionel referred to both [the 440 and the 0440] as the 440N" after 1935. I can imagine several ways that either number of lamps might be wired, some involving a DPDT switch in the controller, some an SPDT switch, as described by Roger.
Could there have been multiple versions of this accessory?

Gives you a start...three pages worth.
Up down lights if colored are green, sideways are red, should be jumpered. One wire (green) to terminal on base shown as "green", same for "red". Power and grounds as shown.
Looks like I’m not as new as I thought. Forgot I had joined before.

Hi! I’m new to the forum and looking forward to learning lots of great stuff from you experts.
I have a nice old Lionel 0440 Signal Bridge in pretty good condition but the wiring is gone. The rest is all there including the two signal lights, each with 4 bulbs. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for this great old accessor?
thanks,
