Diesel sound for postwar??
Posted by daan on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 9:38 AM
A few of my dutch 0 gauge friends, and me counted too, would like to know if there is an aftermarket soundboard for postwar Lionels.
The Lionel Dealer in Switserland asks almost 100 euro's for it, and for that money I buy a nice locomotive.. (part no 6-22964)
Is there a good trainshop selling sound boards for conventional control and also is prepared to ship to europe?? It doesn't need to be lionel, but we would like to have sound in our postwar diesels..

Hello Daan!

By a soundboard do mean the horn relay, or the horn itself? If it is the relay, you can find a good modern ELECTROINIC one from www.depotronics.com I bought these, and you will be surprised how quick and reliable these are!

I've installed two Digital Dynamics upgrade boards, one for myself, and one for a friend. I found both easy to install, and extremely reliable. All for about $10 less than the TAS equivalent.

I would not use a TAS product, but that's a personal thing, and it's your decision as to what to use.

You might want to consider tracking down one of Lionel's RailSounds freight cars. They've done one for steam and one for diesel sounds. The great thing about them is that you can use them with any locomotive, and you don't need to do anything other than put them on the track – no installation is required.
