Wiring Lionel Crossing Gates
Posted by nickthompson22 on Thursday, September 20, 2018 3:22 PM

I have a 12 x 8 layout and use Lionel O-27 track. I am creating a layout with two mainline loops. Is it possible to wire my crossing signals so that one train is capable of triggering both signals travelling in either direction?

Yes.  You can activate any number of simple accessories from any number of tracks, assuming that your tracks  share a common return, using any voltage source (AC, DC, any voltage) that uses the same common as the tracks.

Create insulated outside control rails wherever you want a train to activate the accessories.  Connect all the control rails together and to one terminal of each accessory.  Connect the other terminal of each accessory to the accessory supply that you want to power them from.

I'm trying to visualize what this would look like -- so I can run one wire from the control rail of one track to the post, and then connect a wire running from the control rail of the other track to that first wire?
