cwburfle "Please let us know how you make out." I did get it off without hurting the plastic using automotive brake cleaner. Not carb cleaner. Working slowly with Q tips when needed, it all came off.

I believe you say they painted the windows black. I believe if you check like Brasseurs, they may have the winshield and you could just replace it. The loco should not have a plastic windshield insert.
trains2353 Got this at a very good price on ebay. Runs well, BUT someone hand painted the cowl in front, if the windshield black. Can that be removed without damaging the plastic body? I have my doubts, but I'm not a painter. TIA Bob

Not knowing how bad a job they did you could tape off around the area that painted and sand it with 400 grit sand paper to get is smoth, Then if you can find a paint in a rattle can that is close enough for you, tape off the engine so none gets on there and paint the cowl. It's hard to say without actually seeing it.

The postwar Lionel 212 USMC alco was painted. Wouldn't those strippers attack the original paint?
You can try this or this paint stripper products.

Please let us know how you make out.
Thanks for the reply. I will try that.
I'd guess you got the good price because of the paint. You may be lucky, perhaps the painter used a water based paint that will wash off with mild soap and water. Otherwise, I am not aware of anything you can do that will not harm the original paint and/or plastic shell.
