This morning I had my first iron transfusion. I asked for the kryptonite special. I am starting to leap tall building this afternoon. I was asked to intial my medical wristband today. That was a new one.
I had an engineering society's past president's breakfast this morning and was able to see many friends. However, I had to drive the interstate at rush hour and that was just like before retirement. In fact, it was somewhat déjà vu today with a fatality on the outer belt. Always sad, but most of the time the cause is speed and weave.

Hey, hey! Lots of good news. After spending a full day at the opthalmology clinic, this is what we learned.
They got some great pictures of these weird things growing in my right eye. They called them Traction whatevers. They could have been caused by some dodo not wearing his eye protection gear or maybe sticking his gluey fingers in his eye.
They are not cancer.
To prevent more blurry spots and retinal tearing, they will do laser surgery on Wednesday.
And best of all, they said I can wear an eye patch after the surgery, if I want to. And i definitely want the eye patch.

The Gnome This morning I already offended someone. Not a good start to the day. In the MR forum, i said HO structures were too tiny for me to scratch build with my fumble fingers. The word Tiny is offensive to some folks. Communication is too difficult. Maybe i should give it up.

Some people are to sensitive. If they can't handle someone thinking something is to tiny for them, then you don't need to listen to there crying. Compare to O HO is tiny, Compare to G, O is tiny, and n scale is super tiny. I like them all but for me I agree ho is to tiny and I won't even get into n unless I have a king size magnafier glass lol. no to watch it's okay but to work with sorry, to work on Forget about it.
I can work on O but nothing smaller. Maybe S but never have tried as don't own, and not in the market for at this time.

Thanks for all the prayers. Daughter's surgery went well. Will get the full pathology report and recommended treatment next Wednesday.

Repaired the burned up wiring on the Gravely and cut the grass. The wiring wasn't the best anyhow. We bought that one with a blown B&S engine and replaced it with a rebuilt Kohler from a tractor that we junked. Of course the wiring didn't match and I didn't take time to make it neat so it rubbed through. I made it worse by bypassing the fuse. Had to replace a couple of roasted wires. Haste makes waste, I was in a hurry both times.
Got enough garden worked on Saturday to get the plants in. Rain Sunday, Tuesday and tonight is going to have to dry up some before that can happen. Mrs did plant some flowers in her planters
Mrs and I have been walking to Mass each morning weather permitting and no appointments to interfere. Hoping to get a few pounds off.
My eyes are getting heavy, best finish before I lose it again.

Yes, I agree and the media can butcher a technical subject completely.
Today was a full day with continuing education for my surveying license in Ohio. The best part is where the speakers discuss property deeds and descriptions overlapping and the owners are 8 generations removed. When the judge lowers the gavel, then you know who owns the property. I'm requred to have 30 continuing education hours every two years and the state will audit you, too. I have been audited by West Virginia twice and Indiana and Ohio once.
I was in Indiana on Monday and Tuesday taking care of my mom's business affairs. The CSX double tracks were very busy. Empty tank cars were being transported back to the west on long trains. The NS tracks in the northern part of the county were also very busy. Years ago, the NYC, B&O and Wabash all crossed my home county. The NYC became PennCentral, Conrail and then NS. The B&O became the Chessie and now CSX. The Wabash became the N&W and then the NS. It was a great sight to see the trains hit the big diamonds.
While I was in my mom's lawyer's office I was able to see a huge selecion of Auburn Trains. They were just as nice as any Lionel. The coupler was the give away. They are smaller and more prototypical.

Finally got the results from last Friday's CT. The tumor has grown but only a few mm in size. So I guess even a dark cloud can have a silver lining sometimes. Will be doing another CT in mid August and make evaluations at that time with regard to curent treatment or possible alternatives.
Got a bunch of stuff packed and staged for Friday's trip to the museum, tomorrow will be a very busy day so I figured get it done today instead of waiting til the last minute. The BetterHalf is hosting a luncheon tomorrow so guess who gets to be the cook. Will be up early to prep and start cooking about 10:30 for the buffet to be ready about noon.
Have you guys seen the "Spirit of the UP" ? That is one sweet looking loco, wish I had more room in my train budget.

Good Afternoon from a humid 90°F Southern Ohio,
The Marx 1666 set I won on ebay came last night. It is really nice. Worked great right out of the box. All I did was add smoke fluid and put it on the test track and it took off. Nice cars and track too.
The house is pretty quiet with the twins a summer camp and just the youngest at home. We’ll pick up the twins this Friday and drop off the youngest at camp on Sunday.
I’ve got a downspout drain pipe that I believe has a leak as the basement which is normally dry as a bone has a damp spot on the carpet. I’ve rigged a temporary drain pipe away from the downspout in question on the house to see if diverting the downspout flow from the underground pipe allows the dampness go away. If it does then I’ll use a See Snake to see how far down the drain pipe the pipe needs to be repaired, and use the temp drain until it is fixed.
Jim R - My FIL was blind in his right eye, and he had the unsettling habit of looking at the person he was talking to while driving. This involved full rotation of his vision from the road, usually combined with swerving to the right at the same time. Terrifying driver.

Just switched the tractor from loader, grader back to mower. Now since the sun is behind a cloud I cut all but around the house. I only do that part every other time due to slow growth from lack of sun and Forest clay for dirt!

I believe this is a different Banks for two reasons, one our Banks does have a O guage set, he is more into Gilbert HO. and this Banks was from Il. and our Bank's is from western PA.

The big train show is in Eau Claire in July. Another is in La Crosse at the end of July.

Good Afternoon from a wet cloudy 75°F Southern Ohio,
Another busy but fulfilling weekend and back to the work that pays the bills. Friday I was finally was able to cut the grass on the south slope with a mower. This is one of the recovered areas where I cut the overgrown brush and trees out last fall/winter. I did find something that really helped with mowing a particularly steep part, I wore Gabriel’s baseball cleats. Later Friday night we went to the oldest girls dance performance, then some of the girl’s friends stayed overnight Friday. Saturday washed bride’s van and cut grass and home and at MIL’s. Sunday my bride drove the twins to Catholic Youth Summer Camp, and I reversed the swing on the storm door to the kitchen then had supper at SIL’s as an out of town sister was in for a visit.
Buckeye - I’ve had lots of grits in all so many different ways and love them! As a reminder my folks came from Kentucky and West Virginia. You could almost think of grits as toast and you can put just about anything on (or in) it.
Dennis - I think hobbies that involve building have an inherent element of delayed gratification and so many folks “want it NOW”

Friday night we went to the Paul Simon farewell concert in St Paul. His old songs were his best work.
Today after grading papers I am loafing. The grass does not need to be mowed. Ran down to the next town to check out an antique mall and came back with a 1924 ford diecast that looks like it is about right for O scale.
Saturday my wife found some Marx windup train cars at an estate sale. The price was ok but not great, which is fine with me. I am not trying to flip them.
While she was doing that, I ordered a new Bachmann steamer from Trainworld. They took my money but so far there is no message about shipping it. hmmm. Maybe they are feeling lazy today too.
