Stuart, why bother w/ replacing the battery w/ the BCR in Proto 2 units, since Proto w do not have a low power = scrambled chip issue? Is it just to never have to bother w/ a battery?
Frank Dz, if its worth doing, its worth doing to wretched excess.

I just found thier add while reading the new issue of CTT and watching A Christmas Story on TV. She powers up fine for the moment, I am letting her recharge all night to see if the battery will take a charge or not. But I DO plan to replace it asap. Thanks for the tip. I havent seen a NKP unit for some time in this model. Very hard to find where I grew up at, crossroads of the IMC and Cloverleaf districts of the NKP. Now I live in Fairview, PA, with the NKP, now NS, Main just a couple hundred yards from my house. Trains shake the walls when they hit the high bridge over Walnut Creek. Cheers Mike

Mike,
Hope your having a merry Christmas. Just read your MHT find. The battery can cause electronics failure. I have replaced all batteries with BCR units. Available from J & W Electronics in Red Lion PA. Their phone number is 717-417-2820. I have installed BCR units in all new MTH engines with Protosound or Protosound2 before ever powering them up. They do the trick with no hassels.

Pick up a nice MTH diesel at the LHS today. I found a new in the box Nickel Plate Road SD-9. Runs perfectly, probably needs a new battery for the memory though. I am not a big fan of MTH or the way M. Wolf does business, but I DO love the NKP and espicialy the SD-9's. Next on the list is a scale Berkshire, Hopefully the Lionel version, If I can find one at a good price. But that wont be till later next year. Also cleaned the shop out of NKP freight cars. I traded in a Lionel B6 that kept stripping axle gears and for what I paid for it less than a month ago I wasnt going to keep throwing money at it. I did test the diesel as I have had problems with MTH electronics failing in the past. If it dies, I will have TA studios install Railsounds and Command control in her. Merry Christmas everybody!!!!! Mike
