I've never hidden it.  What's the danger?

Years ago most people's names, addresses, and phone numbers were all in the phone book.  What's changed?

btw President Trump lives in the White House.  His name and address are known by most Americans, right?

Yes, but unfortunately nobody's taken advantage of that one!

I believe that is in stock, not stock cars. Btw call customer service and tell them you received a damaged copy and we can send you a new copy.

Here is the difference: Years ago, publishing name, address and phone numbers in a phone book was of little value because the information couldn't correlated with anything else.
Just about the only thing one could commonly tell was gender. Not wanting to be prey, many women started using their first initial only in their listing to leave some doubt.
Today all sorts of information about each of us is readily available to all on the web. Use your real name on the web, and people can find out even more. When I was hiring, I always did a web search on the candidates of interest. The information never stopped me from hiring someone, but it could have.
People can be targeted for crime, or even just by annoying salespeople based on their postings.

Before I started this thread, I tried to remedy the situation on-line first.  Here's what I tried:

1. I clicked: "Customer Service"->"Subscription Services"

2. I filled in my information under "MAGAZINE CUSTOMER SERVICE"

3. I clicked: "LOG IN" button.

4. I clicked: "Report Missed or Damaged Issues"

5. Under "My issue...", I clicked: "was damaged"

6. Under "And I would like to...", I clicked: "replace the issue"

Then a a light grey box appeared with "350 x 150" in dark grey text inside.

The box appears to be 350 pixels in width by 150 pixels in height.

Under it was a selection circle with "March, 2018" under it.

It was March, 2018 when I received the damaged issued.  However my damaged issue was dated May 2018.

It was only possible to select "March, 2018" at that point.

I stopped then, because I didn't want the "March, 2018" issue sent to me.

I'll try calling 877-243-4903 on Monday.

btw  "Stock" wasn't describing "Stock cars".  "Stock" wasn't stating something was "In Stock" either.  "Stock" ended up being the last part of "Military Rolling Stock".

Out of curiosity, I tried the same thing, also stopping short of the finish since my copy was undamaged.  The sequence of prompts and boxes to check was different, but I wound up anyway with a page that authoritatively declared:

"The current issue of Classic Toy Trains is March 01, 2018.  Last Issue Mailed: March 01, 2018"

My guess is whoever programmed that part of the web-site didn't realize at the time CTT dates their magazines two months ahead.  (To my knowledge, CTT has never put an exact date on their magazines either.  I got that same date too.  I just didn't relay that in my previous post.)

I remember reading most magazines started doing that a long time ago in an attempt to get resellers to leave the magazines on the racks longer.  Whether it worked or not ended up with the result that most magazines are now dated ahead by 2-3 months.

UPDATE:  I ended up calling that number a few minutes ago.  The automated voice ended up having the same problem.  It kept insisting the current issue was the "March" issue.  It asked if the damaged issue was the current, previous, or the one before that.  It didn't give me the option of asking for the "May" issue.  After asking me twice whether it was one of those 3, it told me there might be a problem with my connection.  It asked me to press "1" if I needed the current issue.  I pressed "1", and then the voice told me it would be sent out.  I should get it within two to three weeks.  It never verified whether I was going to get the "March" issue or the "May" issue after that.  I'm guessing it will report the missing issue as "March" to whomever is in charge of fulfilling the request.  I'd appreciate if someone here who is on the CTT staff would make sure I get the "May" issue and NOT the "March" issue.

UPDATED UPDATE: My son tried calling later.  He got into the loop with the automated voice, but then he somehow got out of it.  He was able to speak to a for-real-actual person.  Problem resolved for me!  Yay!

FWIW, I did forward this thread to someone to let them know about this problem.

Good for you Rene, quite honestly I was getting a little creeped out by that hole in the front cover picture in the first post.  I feel like I'm looking through a keyhole, and a gentleman doesn't do such things!

I've been lucky in that regard so far then.  To date, I haven't gotten offers from any model train people.

I've been annoyed by legitimate companies more than anything.  Here's a case in point:

It seemed like every week or so I'd get letters from AT&T and Discover card.  I'd had an AT&T/Universal credit card and a Discover Card years ago.  When I went through a divorce in 2004, I had trouble keeping up with my bills.  I called all of my creditors---including those two---to see if I could lower my minimum payments to each until I got over my financial shortfall.  All EXCEPT those two agreed to help, and I eventually paid everyone off.  Once I paid off those two, I sent both cancellation notices explaining their lack of help when I needed it caused me to decide NEVER to do business with them again.

Since then, I've continued to get mail from both just about every week.  In fact, I've been using DirecTV for a few years now.  AT&T bought them out, and they now send me even MORE mail now.  I've never replied to their offers, and my payments to DirecTV are automatic, so I've no need to log into AT&T's web-site which DirecTV told me I have to do if I want to deal with DirecTV issues in the future.
