I know this is old and you may haved found you solution.

the magic lightbulb solves a lot of problems with DCS , especiallay older systems. I bought mine in 2009 from Jims trains, not upgraded.( I tried but the software didnt load to my computerto much hassle, and I preferr Lionel Legacy quite a bit more, I don't like the dcs thumbwheel).

I took my working unit off track while doing some track modifications, worked fine with magic light bulb.  Hooked it up 30 days later 4000 23 volts, dcs 6" away, wired to track 12" away, PS3 engine that worked fine before 6"away next to track hookup from transformer, no Magic Bulb.Remote couldn't find engine, no active engine, engine not on track etc. power off and on,  I could only run a conventional Lionel engine not PS3,  after a few choice words, I hooked up the Magic Light bulb and Voala everythings fine now and I am able to install dcs 4' from track and everybody's happy.

sorry bout the rambling but try the ight bulb if it works there is some kind of electronic filtering device that you can buy.

When this happens to me, the first thing I try is to his the search button where it queries what is on the track. This will often find the loco. If hat doesn't work, I turn the xfrmr off, disconnect the TIU lines to the track and transformer, and reconnect everything and apply power.

Good luck

I too have experienced the same thing,  I have found the following;

- Weak Battery in remote

- Dirty track, wheels, or pick-up roller

- Also IF I have a Legacy or TMCC unit parked real close to the MTH engine it will not recognize.

Different times different solitions have worked for me.

Steam - unfortunately this is a common problem and no clear answer. You can try things such as taking all other DCS locos off the tracks (if there are others) then try again, programming the loco on a separate test track and move it over, making sure there are no other powered items on the track, and just keep trying to delete/add.

Did you try another DCS loco? If another DCS loco works then experts will say it is not the DCS, but cannot consistently explain why it happens either. If you can get it to program on a test track, try doing a full reset of the loco and then try adding it on the layout.

I have this problem occur a lot and it is extremely aggravating.

Hi everyone out there!! My mth loco (ps2) Won't connect, it says that the loco is not on the track, I deleted my loco, hoping that it was just a flaw( my remote sometimes does that) but it said that still there was no engine on the track, and power was on the track. HELP!!!!!!!!!
