MTH..replacing interior lights on passenger cars
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, December 23, 2004 10:48 AM
I have a couple of new MTH/Railking 027 passenger cars and the interior lights have come loose. Does anyone know how to open the car so I can put the lights back in their sockets?

thanks....

You won't believe this but I did this just last night.

There are two screws on the bottom of the car that connect to a column that extend from the roof. Remove these screws.

Next look inside one of the cars and you will see small tabs that connect the roof to the car wall. Press in on the roof to release the tab as you gently (key word) remove the roof.

Once the roof is off, the bulb replacement is easy if you have the correct one available. Make sure you replace it with a bulb good for 18volts. It will last longer and if you run a command system will not burn out in a few minutes. This is also a good time to put people in the cars if you so desire.

BTW, the instructions for roof removal sometimes don't mention the tabs. [:D]

If you take OGR magazine, there was an article on how to replace switch bulbs with LED lights. I will one day try to convert my passenger cars to LED [using simular blubs and resisters]. Less "draw" on the transformer. I have one Lionel F3 that will get only a medium speed with all the passenger cars due to the lights. Take the bulbs out and the engine flies. Welcome [#welcome]
