I received my copy of the new catalog yesterday. I had seen it on-line but wanted to look at paper. There is plenty of nice stuff in there, but I won't be purchasing any new Lionel as I am not active with the hobby these days. I view the catalogs to see what is going on. Price, that is relative for each of us, it is what you can afford. The trains, I love some of them, especailly the decoration and color. The fact that you can buy new trains too is important as postwar and others get older every day. Technology, I wouldn't want bluetooth and some of the features they add. I did buy command control in the 1990s, but when it comes to sound I prefer hearing it in my head. I also still like running transformer. Anyhow I give them credit for keeping it going, and I am glad I stopped by to get a catalog.
I stopped at the Lionel booth over in Amhurst 2 weeks ago, I can attest to liking what I saw. Got to speak with their chief of engineering. It was a good day.
Lionel is deffinately marketing the high end stuff to the Trump crowd. As for the rest of us, the Lion Chief line is better suited price wise.
If you can hold out 10 years or so you can pick up gently used stuff on ebay for .50 on the dollar. I bought a lot of TMCC stuff that way in the last couple years.
I bought one from my local hobby shop a week ago. No-one held a gun to my head and made me do it, I was glad to do it.
I support my LHS in any way I can and don't leave unless I've purchased something. Something big, something small, it doesn't matter.
I do what I can to help keep them alive. So should everyone.
I prefer the paper too, but I'm running out of room! I'm surprised they are only doing one "big" catalog this year. I guess it's easier to be disappointed only once a year with the prices!!

I do have to say, I did get mine free from HobbyTown but I agree on not paying for them! I like being able to view them online, but I am a total paper/turning pages guy!!
Not even interested at looking at it on line. The prices of new trains is way above my budget for them

Yes nuts on cost, price, value....., I will never PAY for one! They should be happy if I decide to buy anything they have that is Way,,,,,,,,,,,overpriced! JMHO.
Update, I did buy the 6-84732 BNSF Tier 4 set because it had a deep discount from Charles Ro on pre orders. The discount was over 25%. List price,,,no way!
