Found out it was a season 16 ep # 3 Bound for Badness It is the last act of the show Did anyone see it?
I did not see that one, but I saw one a few seasons ago where Frank paid something like $300 for a new old stock "Marx" set from the 1950s. It looked like a very common set, which in my opinion was not worth anything near what he paid. But I am not a Marx collector.

I didn't catch it either, but I DID see the show where the boys got burned on the "State Set."
Strange, I had a funny feeling it wasn't going to turn out well.
There is a lot more to the story of the boys being burned on the State set than is known by many.
First the train was not purchased on the spur of the moment, like the show made it appear. These guys were at that dealer's home for 3 days and had ample time to call people prior to buying the set. The seller is/was a TCA member who regularly attended/attends York.
The auctioneer sent the train to York in April before the May auction where it sold. It sat on a table of an acquaintance of mine and drew absolutely no interest. I did not view it, but others who did, indicated that the train had very obvious repainting and there was even tape marks / residue / small pieces of tape stuck to the train, while it was at York.
It gets better after that, as the guy who brought it to York supposedly was set to bid the item up above what Frank paid for it, so that it would make it appear that Frank made money on the item. It was only at the last minute that the producers of the show reportedly nixed the idea of having the schill bidder bid on the item and to let it go for the amount that it sold for.
So that is the story of reality TV and is one of he reasons that I gave up watching that show.
Personally I do not believe one thing about any of the reality shows. There all made up for entertainment. Some of the money they pay for things I think is way out there but then if you look it seems things like signs ( that they make a big deal about ) the so called value on them has gone up on places you look to buy them because peopl now believe thats there value which wasn't there few years ago.

Remember, there is no such thing as a reality TV show. Lots of setups and scripting. As for telling someone they are asking too little....... I've done it, and been paid back in spades. When actively buying and selling anything, reputation is everything, and word can get around.As far as I am concerned, all the treasure hunting shows, like Pawn Stars, Storage Wars, and American Pickers (which I never liked from the start) have run their course. I don't watch any of them.
As far as reality shows are concerned my philosphy is this, once it's realized that a lot are scripted to keep them interesting, I mean there has to be foul-ups, crises, minor disasters and conflicts or the shows are going to be flat and boring, I find some to be quite interesting. Except for one.
"Hoarders."
That show's so nauseating I have to leave the room whenever Lady Firestorm's watching it! Ugh!
The only reason I think she watches it is since we're not the world's greatest housekeepers it's a relief for her to see someone who makes us look good!
I viewed that show and I using a Greenburg price guide I came up with a approximate value of $3000. This show is scripted and not in the real world.

Oh, I don't think that show's definintion of "hoarding" is mis-interpreted at all! The people on those shows are, to put it delicately, disturbed.
Toy train fans like you and I aren't disturbed. Eccentric maybe, fun-loving and colorful definately, caretakers of wonderful artifacts absolutely, but certainly not disturbed!

But after seeing a couple of those hoarding shows, I realized that I had nothing to worry about. Those cases are tragic, I feel sorry not only for the families that go through it, but also how their problem is made into entertainment. I guess that is the only way they can afford to get help.
