I have a early postwar 1666. Great runner, except it buzzes/squeaks going down the track. It's like one of of the armature bearings is dry. I cleaned the motor and everything else. I used lebelle #108 to begin with, no help. Then I switched to lebelle #102, to no avail. Help!
since you lubed it, I'd guess the squeaking is the slide shoes rubbing on the track. Mine do this. The buzzing is likely the E Unit.

Sometimes its hard to describe noises. Since you say it sounds like a dry bearing, it probably is. That style of Lionel motor mechanism does have a tendency to squeal when the armature bearings are dry. On the gear end, I use a light oil that can soak into the bearing and the area between the shaft and the bearing. If the bearing is very dry, it can take several small applications. On the opposite end, I like to use a light, teflon grease, but the brushplate has to be removed, and the inside of the hole carefully coated. Otherwise a medium to light oil. The lubricant has to be able to work its way between the shaft and the hole in the fiber plate.
Thanks for the info. New shoes no help. I tried CWBURFLE's suggestion to apply lube to the inside of the bearing plate opposite side of brush plate and that fixed it.
I used your advice and it cleared up the problen. Thank you so much.
