Could be it shout down on over lode then reset itself
srguy Yesterday it was dead today it's alive. I tested the 2 termanals with a test light yesterday ... nothing. Connected 2 wires this morning and got sparks. Put the same test light on today and got power. Trains are operating fine on that loop today. Go figure! I agree it's better to relace than try to repair.

A delayed-action Christmas miracle?
If you want a back-up I sent you a message thru the system, I can give you one for actual shipping. ( I will test to be sure)

I don't see how anybody can give a definitive answer without knowing the model number and condition of the transformer. But at 50 watts, it is unlikely that it is worth repairing.
I'm assuming you've metered it and gotten nothing on the meter, or put two wires on the terminals and touched the ends and got no spark.
KRM's correct, there's others around to replace it with, or you can simply go with a current production AC transformer from Lionel, MTH, or other outfits.
And if it's a 1043 as KRM suggests it's not worth trying to repair, no-one expected them to last 40, 50, or 60 years, they were strictly a starter set transformer.
They don't cost much on the bay to replace if it is a 1043

I use this small transformer that came with an Erie Lackawanna RS3 set ... I think it a 50 W black w/ 2 terminals. It seems to have lost power .. any suggestions on repairing? Or just trash it?
