Hello Everyone! This is a picture of a Rail road tunnel at Nay Aug Park in Scranton, Pa taken in June 2004

This one is a picture of a big boy and a yard goat at Steamtown The big Boy is one of only 3 left in the U.S. I Believe.

Here is Another view of Steamtown with the train that is used to run up into Carbondale, Pa and down to Moscow, Pa. This is more or less Steamtowns Ambassador Train

Here is a view of the Laurel line Trolley next to Steamtown which was put back into operation about 2 Years ago. The city hopes to expand the operation of the Laurel line in the near future.

This is in Nay Aug Park in Scranton, Pa It is a Gravity Railroad Passenger Car used by the Pennsylvania Railroad Co Between Pittston & Hawley ,Pa Between 1853-1890’s The Gravity railroad worked on the same principle as a Roller Coaster and is exactly how Rollers Coasters were developed as a amusement park ride. Another one of these Passenger Cars resides in the Wayne County historical society in Honesdale, Pa which is about 32 Mi Northeast of Scranton

This is the old New York, Ontario, and Western Railroad depot in Mayfield, Pa which is 13 Mi Northeast of Scranton, Pa and is one of the towns that the Steamtown train runs through.

This is a different view of Steamtowns Ambassador Train about to depart for a short excursion through the Railyard of Steamtown.

This is a Photo of my Fathers 1688 train with my Cousins Bob & Aldine Cudlip and it was Taken in 1949 at Christmas Time. My Cousin had the 1688 set for almost 20 years and gave it back to my Father in 1962 after he graduated from high school and just before he went into the Navy. This was before I was born(1964) and my aunt found this picture of the train in her archives a few years ago and gave it to me . The Train that you see in the picture is now at my Brother’s house where it now resides.

Hi Spank,
Neat Pics, those pictures brought back memories of the summer, my wife and I spent 5 hrs there in August. Saw some reall cool stuff, like the operating round house, and don't forget to go to Gryzboskis Train shop it is locateed above or to the northeast of the Steamtown Mall. They are only open in the summer till about 4:30. And just down the street is Scranton Trains.

Hello Everyone! Here is some additional info for some of the above photos.The Train Tunnel at Nay Aug Park in Scranton was built under difficult conditions as the Railroad workers who built it in the late 1800s went on strike.Well, the railroad co did not like this and as a result mounted a Cannon on a Flatcar.aimed the cannon at the strikers and in effect said." You will build this tunnel or else" Some heavyhandeness indeed! Remember this was when people worked 10-12 hrs a day.Now the Picture showing the Gravity Railroad car looks like the Howard Passenger train that Jim's (oncelars) Family has in their possession. It could be that Howard Mfg modeled their Passenger cars after the Gravity railroad cars.Sure seems like it though.Hope everyone enjoys the pics...............Keith.

Spankybird, you must someday go see Steamtown. I know you would love the exhibits. My favorite part is the shops.

Just head east on I-80, avoid the 80 car pile ups and drive to Scranton. The train stores in the area are also worth a visit.

When my wife and I went in `97, I had a memory flashback. My father and grandfather had worked for the Lackawanna. Going through Nay Aug tunnel, I remembered a trip to Scranton when we slowed down through that tunnel. The MOW crew was at work. My father had looked out the window and laugfhed. "Look, there's Stumpy leaning on his shovel." I looked, and sure enough there was Anthony D'Andrea, a family friend, standing trackside with a shovel. I was too young to know the signifcance of
leaning on a shovel," but figuresd it was spiteful. The next time we saw Anthony, I said, "You were leaning on your shovel!" (Of course, it means goofing off from work.)

Also, the "booth" where we sat at the Hotel was the same door I had exited when we were going to the trains, some 40+ years ago. That door sure got smaller in four decades.

I wonder how many people reading this should be working, but in their way are leaning on their shovel?
