Morning. A damp feeling 50 degrees. Wow just dropped a degree. Might have a shower of rain. Rain we need. Don' need if I'm doing leaves. Got new spindles and bearings in deck of JD mower. Also new belt. Ready to go.
I have ear ringing and had for years. Left ear is worse. 60% hearing in left ear. The last test was 3 years ago. Dr. looked at me and asked, "You right handed?" "Yes." "You shoot?" "Yes." "Thought so." When growing up, no such thing as hearing protection. No cabs on tractors back then. Even in the Army, no hearing protection worth a hoot. I'm sure VA will not do a thing. Well, unless I move to CA who seems to be more understanding than NC.

Zinc eh, well as long as I don't have to pat my head and spin around 3 times I'll give it a try.

I haven't been on for a week and you miss a lot! It was one of those busy weeks of doing nothing (kinda like a Seinfeld episode!) We started setting up the Christmas decorations last week, but it has been a slow go. I just can't get into it this year for some reason. I may not even set up my train layout! (gasp!).
I woke up to see my Blue Jays commentator, Gregg Zaun, is the latest "casualty". With that said, I'll refrain from further commenting.........

Roy - thanks for the lantern feedback. Hope your Apple/Safari woes are fixed. I prefer Google Chrome, but I use Apple at work, so I appreciate your frustration. My wife and two of my kids swear by Apple, I just swear at Apple!!
DougM - I was going to make a witty comment about your eyes, but with my luck the forum police would make me the next Gregg Zaun.
Kev - sorry to hear about all of the health issues with the in-laws. Yes, it can make it tougher when those relationships are estranged. On the positive side, the layout is looking good. After my folks did the Alaska RR this summer, my dad is looking to add some Alaska stock to his layout. I may pick your brain in the future for your two cents.
DonB - for future reference, could you tell us what that frequency range was? I may need to get a Dr.s note for my wife!!

Kevin, prayers for you and all of your family. Busy day at work. Never fails to amaze me how many cases pile up in the short time between close and the 1st (normally 3 days). I usually process 70-90 a month and today I did 18. Go figure. Weather was still good. Watched Blue Bloods tonight. Sometimes it is too tidy a conclusion. I hope everyone has a good day.

Kev....prayers for you and yours
beginning to get used to 6 Saturdays with a Sunday thrown in. Been attending daily mass most days after driving Mrs to work.
Son and I spent a few hours today getting ready for winter. He sold the last of the round bales today. Still have a wagon load of square bales in the shed that needs to go.
Spent the last couple of hours of daylight today trying to ambush a buck. No luck. Starting tomorrow I can shoot buck or doe since I have a doe tag. Have to wait till later in the day since oldest grandaughter is in her 1st competition tomorrow morning. Got to be there at 8.
Cleaning gutters with 23 feet of pipe isn't that hard. I let the gutter support most of the weight.
Ringing in my ears gets very loud some days. To many expansion chambers without silencers and noisy work environments while it wasn't "cool" to wear ear protection. An ENT doc told me many years ago to take 100mg of zinc daily. Definitely helps. After a couple days without it the ringing is worse.
Struggling to stay awake.

Rough 48 hours for wifey, Her sister who is a POS has Stage 4 Stomach Cancer. Not good even though she has been a druger all her life and screwed Sandra and everyone else so many times it is still hard on her. And found out her mom is now in advanced Alzheimer's stages. Happy new year. Not going to be fun. The grand-son Jordan's hernia surgery went good but it was way bigger than they thought so recovery will take some time. WTH, and I think I have problems!
Better give it up for today.

Ringing in the ears. Yup. got it. Have had it for quite some time. Does not bother me unless I start thinking about it. Thanks (scarcasm) for getting me to think about it.

Morning all! December Coffee Pot = Holiday Season in full swing!
46 right now and sunny. 69 today and 70's for the weekend. Will get the Christmas outdoor and indoor decorations going this weekend.
Made the trek across town yesterday to pick up one of the Craftsman tool boxes I picked up for 1/2 price on cyber Mon. Will get the other two today from the local Sears which is only 2 miles away. Started moving stuff in the garage to prepare for the new setup. Tools and stuff to move into the new boxes will allow me to move out a couple of old units I was using for tool storage (I.e. An old dresser drawers unit). I will end up with everything on wheels so I can move things to clean, etc., or rearrange for certain projects.
An interesting comment on the Sears toolboxes. The quality of the Harbor Freight red US General tool boxes (a stacking roll around set that I have now) is equal or even a little better than the Craftsman (i.e. Drawer roller bearings). I would have preferred the HF but HF does not make the styles I needed. The cyber Mon deal brought the Sears boxes down to the same range as the HF's when the HF's are on sale. The Sears deal was only on units in store stock. No shipping or store transfers (thus the trip across town and the lower than normal sale price). HF's are on sale most of the year and the Sears boxes are usually quite expensive. Probably built in the same place. So if you need a toolbox, I give the HF's US General line a definite .
RobM - forgot to respond to your comment about the kerosene switch lamp and collecting. I do not have a photo posting site so no way to post a photo. If you Google Dressel kerosene switch lantern you will get a bunch of photos. I am not a big collector of 12:1 railroad stuff. All I have are a few track tie nails, a couple of switch keys (nails and keys are SP as a former neighbor who gave them to me was retired SP), and the lantern (which I got a very good deal on from a neighbor/friends table at York. I don't trust people I don't know on antique stuff since the late 70's/early 80's antiques/railroadannia started a mass movement towards fakes when prices started going up (furniture, wall telephones, lamps, you name it). The problem is particularly rampant in the switchman's and Conductors lanterns market. Many of the old designs still exist and new parts/complete lanterns being made by Adlake and licensees. The techniques to artificially age these items are well publicized. So I treat all old items as fake (so the price has the be appropriate) unless provenance can be provided and then it is out of the price range I am willing to pay.
Kind of like my toy trains collecting. I buy it 'cause I like it with zero thought towards 'investment collectibility'.

The little grand-son is having a hernia operation today. Praying all goes well. Kind of scary for a four-year-old. I remember my brother Rex had a double hernia when he was young and did fine. You know all small boys think they are The Hulk.

Morning. Off to a DARE graduation at an elementary school.
Mornin' boys. Sunny & 44 along the Paterson Creek cut-off. Spent Tues-Wed preparing Fifedom for Christmas, outside. Spent yesterday in the train room. Got the loop for American Flyer train. My 15B power transformer is awesome, and the old (55-60) 2-rail track was up to the task. Unfortunately, the 303 isn't... Lights. Smokes. NO action. Will be going under the hood as time permits. At least the 740 handcar works after I woke the boys up.

Wow, don't know when I posted on the first page of a new Coffee Pot.
Didn't have any dumb stuff happen today, Did some cleaning around the house, doing windows, cleaning sidewalks, patio, and putting some decorations up. All helping Kay getting stuff done for her Bunco party. Did do some wiring for a few buildings, and resolved a couple of intermittent lights. (loose bulbs). Probably 1 or 2 more days and that part of the wiring will be complete. Then will start all the accessories, then track features signal crossings, dwarf signals etc..
Going on a tour of the mine where Chris is working then going to spend some time helping him look for an apartment.
Sorry to hear about Jim Neighbors, a very good character actor, and a tremendous voice.
KEV, Regarding the impared hearing, the VA checked mine and indicated I had sustained some loss which they attributed to working on the Flight Line. They told me (with Kay present) that the frequency range I lost was the same as womans voices. Kay didn't appreciate that very much.
dougdg, Don't know of anyone taking on a tumbleweed with a Honda, that takes nerve. Hope you enjoy the weekend, just don't over do.
