Wiring American Flyer PA without reverse unit
Posted by kevin hill on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 7:59 PM

So I have an American Flyer 360 PA with a bad revershe unit and even with the unit locked it forward it sometimes gets stuck in neutral. For the type of operations I'm doing I only need it to run in forward and have heard of some people eliminating the unit all together and hardwiring the engine to run in forward but have not found any diagrams showing what wires need to go where to make that happen, any help would be appreciated thanks!

To eliminate the reverse unit, wire as following:

Power from one pickup goes to one brush connection. The other brush connection gets connected to one field connection. The other field connection gets connected to the other pickup.

If the loco runs in reverse, switch the 2 brush connections.

It also works to swap the field connections, if that's easier than swapping the brush connections, to change the direction.  What doesn't work is to swap both.
