Do i need a transformer and a remote control track to operate the LionChiefPlus remote control locomotive or just the remote control track? Thanks Martin

Maybe check out the Lionel web site, as I did.  Don't know if this helps you, but:

User-selected operational modes: Conventional AC transformer control mode or LionChief™ wireless remote control with AC or DC power

Just for future reference, if you go up towards the top of this screen where it says "Home > Model Railroader > Forums > General Discussion" and click on "Home", it takes you to a page showing all of the Kalmbach railroad-related forums. The one for Classic Toy Trains magazine is going to be the best place to post questions about Lionel / 3-rail trains.
