Hope you're right Mr. Burfle, we don't want to lose anybody!Well, I didn't mean to say that there aren't any train people dieing. Certainly there are. After attending York a few times my wife, who is a health care professional, remarked on the general unfitness of an awful lot of train people. The TCA does publish a list of members who have passed in each edition of the TCA Quarterly. I guess they rely on friends and family for the information.

The thing is, what popped into my mind after Becky's last post was something that happened when I worked in a gunshop back in the 80's. Every other year or so we'd get a rash of collectable military firearms for sale, M-1's, .45's, German Lugers, P-38's, Mausers, and so on. Guys I worked with used to say "Gee, I wonder what's going on? We usually don't see this many at any one time."
"Have you checked the obituary pages lately?" I asked.
"Oh yeah, holy smoke!" they replied.
Probably not a collector die off. Probably collectors trying to:
1 - downsize - display layouts take up a lot of room.
2 - cash out - while the market is still strong in some areas, overall the popularity of collecting ANYTHING is in a decline. The owners of these layouts may be looking to sell them before their values drop.
I see what you mean. Has there been a collector die-off we don't know about?
Well, here comes a D-130 ending in 12 hours that's going for a bit lower: https://www.ebay.com/itm/LIONEL-D-130-FACTORY-DEALER-DISPLAY-LAYOUT-ORIGINAL-EXCELLENT-PLUS-CONDITION/162774687828?hash=item25e620a054:g:S6gAAOSwA~VaAy1F
Is it just me, or are there more display layouts on the market this year?
Trains, trains, wonderful trains. The more you get, the more you toot!
It sold at 10:30 PM 11/26 for $13,850.
Must be nice to have money.
Before I spend $13,850 on something it has to have four tires on it and can get me to work!
Nice item, outside my budget.
Only went up about $770 to $13450
