Marx used a thin copper strip that was insulated and it snapped over the outside rail. A lionel 153c will do the job.

We have the Lionel Automatic Gateman#145 operating on the layout (connected to the 153c Contactor). Works great.
We also have a Colber Gateman which we manually activate by pressing the button switch on the control deck when the train approaches.
Question:
How does the Marx Crossing Shanty #1420 work? Does it have something like the Lionel Contactor, a button switch like the Colber or something else?
As always, many thanks.
