The blinking is controlled by a thermostatic switch that may have been bypassed. See the attached link for information.

Hello:
We recently unpacked our "long time ago used" Lionel #193 Industrial Water Tower w Blinking Light. The one made in the USA.
It had no lamp so we put in a standard #51 bulb. The light works except it does not blink.
Question: Is it the bulb (meaning it needs a special type) or does it have something to do with the (to me, complicated) mechanism in and around the socket?
I don't have the original instructions and the ones on the internet are for the current overseas made versions.
While it sits well on the layout as it is, it would be nice to see it blink.
