That galleon model looks great Becky, but I've got a question. Just where is that "Chicken Of The Sea" galleon? That's one impressive ship!
Sir Francis Drake would have been proud to fly his flag on that one, but he might have had a problem with the name. Sir Francis was anything but chicken of the sea!
The Chicken of the Sea Restaurant opened with the rest of Disneyland on July 17, 1955. Here's what it looked like originally:
But it wasn't finished. So, construction continued while the park was open in full view of the guests, which you don't see today.
Simple menu and there were vending machines on board too!
You could eat right out on the deck in the early years. See the vending machines?
In later years the ship was renamed.
There's some question as to exactly how many ships occupied Skull Rock Cove between 1955 and 1982, but at least 2 have been verified. In 1982 Fantasyland was extensively remodeled. The original plan called for moving Captain Hook's galleon over a few dozen feet to afford a better view of Storybookland, which the ship always partly obscured. (Also seeing a pirate flag looking like it was flying above Sleeping Beauty Castle just didn't sit well with some! ) But the cost and logistics of moving a massive concrete, steel and wood ship slightly to the right just didn't add up. So, Cap'n Hook lost his home.
The ship that I'm using is actually the Wicked Wench from Pirates of the Caribbean:
Oh, so I take it the "COTS" AKA "Captain Hooks" isn't there anymore. Too bad, as far as replica ships go that one was a masterpiece, looked sea-worthy as all get-out even if it really wasn't.
I've been on the replica "Golden Hind" and let me tell you that Disney ship compared very favorably to it.
Oh, the "Wicked Wench!" That makes sense, I've heard of the "Black Pearl" but not the "Pink Pearl."

Yeah, sadly they didn't build a new one. I guess they decided they didn't need two ships especially since the one they kept could move (usually without sails ).
"Columbia" looks fantastic as well. Reminds me a bit of the "Bounty" or Captain Cook's "Endevour." They did their homework when they built that one.
