1:43 People ?
Posted by traindaddy1 on Monday, May 1, 2017 7:44 PM

Being on a limited budget and wanting to increase the number of people on the layout, I looked at eBay. There are a number of listings for very inexpensive figures shipping from China.

I realize that it takes a longer time for the product to ship from China and that's okay.

Question: Have you had any personal experience or knowledge of the quality of any of these figures? (Aside from the "you get what you pay for" comments.)

As always, many thanks.

I use them in my passenger cars. I have some standing ones on order right now and will be needing to get some more of the sitting ones. The only problem I have is theres like 4 or 5 different and then it repeats that 4 or 5 to get to the number you ordered.

Like you I am low budget and like, inexpensive figures.

I use them and I call one scale Gale and take her with me when I am looking for things that will fit the layout. Just remember at 1:48th scale a 6' person will be 1.5" tall and most of the China knock offs are closer to 1:50th scale and I don't think you want 1:43 anyway. 1:48th would be correct.  But then a Lionel gateman is 12' tall to scale. Laugh

Like RT, I have cut a lot of them off at the hip and glued them into passenger cars but they only have a few and just paint them up in other colors.

I too have a some what limited budget and sometimes I find some things at Walmart in the toy department that fit in the layout.

My local hobby shop has stuff for around $20.00 a pack but you only get 5 or 6 figuires for that price.

With some of my passenger cars in O gauge I have used S scale figuires and one time H.O. scale figuires for the upper level on a 2 level passenger car. The passenger car was a K-Line 15 inch car.

I like them.  I'd like to have about 5,000 more!  Big Smile  Here are some of them:

I don't know if things have changed, but at the time I bought these figs they all had one choice of hair color: black.  And as you can see there were only about 10 figure types total (including sitters) just painted differently.  As far as the size they're around 1:50 which makes them about a head shorter than the traditional Plasticville/Marx/etc. figures we've gotten accustomed to.  If you look at the figure in the green shirt on the far left of the photo, there's an HO scale adult figure (in black) posing as his child.  Behind them you can also see the red sides of a Lionel James Gang General's tender.  They're small but they're a lot better than the MTH figures outside of passenger cars:

The Disney Monorail is roughly S scale in size (though it's often claimed to be HO).  The 2 figures closest to the train are MTH while the one to the left of the pole in the brown coat is the traditional size.  The 2 kids at the rail are clones I made (from hot glue) using traditional O child figures to make molds out of Sculpey.  They needed mouse ears of course!  Laugh

It's hard to beat the price.  I also saw at least one vendor now offering 1:48 and 1:43.5 figure sets.

Trains, trains, wonderful trains.  The more you get, the more you toot!  Big Smile
