I have been a subscriber for quite a few years, to the printed magazine, and it is the ONLY subscription I maintain. I just finished a little rant, about the latest software upgrade, that is far less user friendly, on the “Forum” side, from what it was years agO. (Thread titled Why?????). Now reading through this thread, there seems to be many issues with the various DVD’s, being offered, that are not current with today’s technology, be it Operating systems(Msoft/Apple), computer and handhelds. For the powers that be, I feel you need a total revamp of your software, to make life a little easier, overall to services offered, and better forum access with posting photos.
I suspect not. After Model Railroader's disc set came out there was a software security upgrade that the application could not support. I suspect there won't be an update, but I will raise the issue. This troubling to me, since we all have the digital collection loaded on our computers (all Macs) and it will stop our easy access for searching.

Apple just announced it will not support 32 bit apps in the next Mac operating system. The engine used to access the CTT DVD for "Classic Toy Trains 25 Years and Counting") is a 32 bit app. Can we expect a revised app for use on Macs in the futhre?
I want media too. Web content can be changed, and can disappear.
Plus, as others have stated, network connectivity can be an issue.
hi,guys and ladies, I did buy dvd, dont need internet to use. just put in disk, and it copies to hard drive. works very well. when i buy software, games, movies, music I aways want hard copies, for future use. dont want to depend on web,or somebody else too many things can and do go wrong. every body have a great day.
This is a reality for many people, sadly. I can't make a cell phone call at my parents' house because there is NO reception. Their Internet service has improved slightly, but they are still unable to stream content on their smart tv. I can't imagine them downloading content!

Sorry I have to disagree. Some of us do not have access to highspeed internet. Too far out in the country. Comcast stops 1/2 mile away and wants to charge 10K to bring 15 more home on the system. Hughes net we use to have we had to do downloads of this size at 2 AM and finish before 7 AM. We now use Verison Jet packs works well but again too big to down load. Keep the DVDs I can wait a couple days to get it. Tech guys seem to forget not all of us live in silicon valley alot of us live in Mountian Valley.
Buckeye RiveterI just bought a new computer without a DVD player. Most software is now being downloaded from the internet. Any chance CTT may have that option in the future or another option?
You've got that right!
Much of the software industry has found the cost savings to be significant by NOT including actual disks with their products. A printed serial number is what many software companies actually sell. The simplicity of providing permission to download software with a valid serial number has revolutionized the industry. Any company NOT adapting to this new paradigm is throwing potential profits out the window. Setting up a way to download software is easy, and in many cases already paid for by companies employing System Administrators or webmasters. They update web-sites anyway based on new requirements continually. Once the changes to a web-site are made to allow downloadable software by one customer providing a valid serial number, no further maintenance is needed for all subsequent customers.
The cost of manufacturing disks is eliminated completely. Why would any company choose to provide disks anymore?
Some software companies don't even manufacture boxes or packaging of any kind. By selling on-line only, all manufacturing costs are totally eliminated.
Not at all likely, I'd guess.

Hi everyone, Garden Railways just finished a DVD archive set. I was told by our tech person that the operating systems that will work with the product are current as of the product's release. CTT's set is a little more than 2 years old, and Windows 10 wasn't in prime time yet, so it's not included in the list.
If CTT were to re-issue or update the set, the operating systems that are compatible with the product would be updated too.
As for requiring Internet access, I've installed several versions of the Garden Railways' set on my Mac here at work. Not once was I prompted to access the Internet while installing, so it doesn't appear to be critical to have the product work.
I believe it was developed before Windows
10. I also think they will keep the internet access required.
I looked again. Your listing for the CTT DVD does not list Windows 10 as a supported environment. And it says that internet access is required. If Windows 10 is supported, I suggest that the listing be updated. If internet access is not required, that's another update.
The software used for the CTT DVD (and Garden Railways DVD) was upgraded and is more reliable than the software used for the Model Railroader or Trains DVD packages that I heard could be problematic.
The question of internet access came up when the product was released. The answer I received from our IS people was that not having internet access would not prevent the product from functioning properly. It would be an avenue for the software to be updated at some future time (rated unlikely to happen).
All of the software and content is on the discs and they to not rely on accessing the Kalmbach Planetary Server to function.
Hi,
I am using the 25-year CTT DVD on my Windows10 system. No problems.
Take care,
Dick
I was interested in the DVD too. But according to what I've read, it's written using a software package that is obsolete. I just looked at the product again, and I do not see Windows 10 listed as a supported platform.
interested i n buying 25 years+ dvd. would like more information, do i have to have internet to view, run dvd?. can some body give me a review on dvd, thanks.
