I'd go for the Blue Comet myself.

I'd definetly go with the N&W J or the Blue Comet if it was me deciding on which set I wanted for Christmas. I love sleek colourful passenger sets. But, like 3railguy says, it depends on your tastes.

Are you going to move into or already have Command Control? If you ever think you might get DCS then I would go with the MTH sets because you can use them on a DCS equipped layout if they are PS2. Lionel starter sets have yet to have TMCC included.

NYC with railsounds. I love the 4-4-2's. They go and go and go.

Then purchase some extra track and some cool accessories.

I've seen the heliport at real low prices.

Or an MTH sawmill/lumberloader - very cool.

#2 is a cool set. Just be aware it does not come with RailSounds. Set #1 does.

a lot depends on your tastes. If it were me, I would steer to the N&W set because it is sleek and handsome.

I am not getting a set for christmas. I asked for the Lionel camelback. If you have a layout, add new engines. Try Trainworld/trainland or JusTrains tor camelbacks priced around $225.00
