At a recent train show I bought a Lionel #26865 Animated Caboose manufactured in 2006-07. It was in its original box with all the trappings and appeared to be in Like New condition. However, it will not operate--it doesn't light up and the conductor figure does not move.
There is a "spare" bulb in a sealed envelope in the package, so I thought I would open the caboose to see if its bulb is missing. Fortunately, the conductor is positioned outside the platform so I removed him easily. The instructions for bulb replacement then say "Operate the car until the base moves inside the platform" and "do not attempt to move the figure by hand." But of course I cannot "operate the car" and so the shell will not come off even with the screws removed.
There is an on/off switch under this unit and I have tried the switch in both positions with no results. Any ideas on how I can get that shell off without damaging the moving base so I can see what's going on?
