I had the same problem, with the same train. It happened the day i bought so i just took the set back to Allied Hobbies and they gave me a new tender. But being a year after u bought it, i guess i don't know what to tell you. When u get it fixed, don't hold down the whistle button for a long time and use it sparingly.

I don't think that will help, Tom. There shouldn't be any DC on the track when the button isn't pushed, regardless of the polarity. One way to check whether the transformer is putting out DC all the time would be to experimentally connect a fixed accessory voltage to the track briefly--while holding the locomotive so it doesn't get away.

Is this an electronic whistle? If there is a whistle relay, it may be stuck. That could be welded contacts, which can be pried open, or a magnetized relay, which can usually be cured by a piece of tape under the armature.

double check your wiring from the transformer to the track. Is the common (usally 'U' post to the outside rail [?]

Try reversing your wires.

Whistle Problem

I have a Lionel Pennsylvania Flyer kit (O-27 scale). When I put the engine and the coal car on the track, the whistle blows constantly. The engine speeds up when I pu***he whistle button on the controler. The train worked fine before I put it in the attic last year. Any idea what I can do to fix the problem?
