Fusion looks like it goes on smooth. Good results.
looks great. You must have good technique!
Thanks , guys,
FIFE, the Fusion for plastic was base coat and I used Krylon MAXX on the top coat. Also sanded all the flat areas with 400 before top coat. The key to it looking good is the time it is in the blast cabinet removing the old.
Some of the heat stamping is hard to get rid of.
RT, something close to this.

WOW kevin, just saw your other post, had to see for my self..... 214 views and 5 coments. now you know where you stand. why waste the time uploading pics? exactly why i stoped. I have good luck on the Facebook groups... least you get a response.... just be prepared for antything on there.
You may not know since you never call or email anymore ,im finally closing in on completion of my 1800 square foot loft for the new layout. may be worth a trip if your up for it....
I have business in Chicago this summer, maybe ill stopin and pound beers with ya? i still have your address in the gps from the other year .....
WOW Hi Ryan,
I may have to, After all this I find the paint is far from a match to Alaska RR. So maybe a bunch of cheap re-paints cars to build a train and make up a road name. Don't want to put any more coats on what I have already done.
And I know, this place is almost in the dirt but you will never see me on F-book.
Kevin was relooking at your shells and then the Alaska engine you gave a link to.
If your going to do your own road name I think Gold like Alaska or Silver as the stripes and nose work. Just a thought, even white would look good
RT not sure yet. May just go ahead and do the Alaska because I already have the decals coming. Who cars, it is just a toy train anyhow. The grand-son won't know it is too light a blue.
Well as it ended up RT, The first paint I thought about and had here is what I am going with. Only thing is it is a 24 hour dry paint but it is satin midnight blue and almost perfect for the Alaska paint match. I went to ACE today and got the 15 min dry Kyrlon Navy blue and still not dark enough. So I tried it on the old 202 shell I am not using first and it laid down nice and did not lift off the Krylon paint on it. So now all three shells are drying in the shed with the heat set at 72.
Kevin my attitude is "I like it. If you don't, theres the door." It's your rail road.
RT, I would not of cared but I did want it to be a closer match to my Alaska boxcar with train sounds I will use with this ALCO set.
It is much better and I will get some pictures as soon as things are dry enough to do it.
UPDATE:
First look's great, but as I said it what makes you happy not someone else. So I do understand what your saying as we all want something as close as posible if we can. Keep up the nice work.
Rt i just gotta throw this out there.... before your move, you had a decent layout/.... but you had a styrofoam mountian from like the dollar store on it. and your here, breaking kevs nuts about a shade of blue? get real brother..... you know you and me were ok when i was buying your stuff. we were buds when no one else on this or the "other thread " called on veterans day to thank you personally for your service the the United Staes Of America.. (remember, we were on the phone and i realized my meth head neighbor stole my tractor tire chains?) just shaking my head how kevin is treated on here.
its almost like kevin is the new jefery wimberly ...... you people should be ashamed of your selves....

I think Kevin can defend for himself, If he had a problem with my comments.
EXCUSE ME? whining? i havent posted here but once in 2 years....
your the one that had the mods shut down the thread YOU started on Pallumbo that didnt go your way..........
no wonder the "homies" ripped your wiring out your truck.....
and believe me KEV will stand for him self.
Yeah and it's better when you aren't here. And I had nothing to do with the shutting down. Big deal on lou thing I just felt that was one sided was all I was saying, I don't care how it came out I made my point and that was it.
Oh boo hoo about the hommies as you call them. Why did you sell the train set that you got help to build. What happen to your great train shop that went flop flop. You want to throw stuff I'll throw all kinds back at you. Don't throw rocks if you live in glass house as the saying goes.
Your the one whinning here not me. You started this BS not me. I compelmented Kevin.
Oh as selling to you I basically gave you that stuff. I sold it to you for about 1/4 what it was worth. But because you had this so called train store I knew you had to make money on them also.
Kevin sorry your thread got hijacked but you can blame your buddy Ryan on that. I complimented you on your painting and he jumps on me saying I breaking on you. Sorry that was not the intention.
Kev which paints work without etching the plastic?
I see Ryan is back hiding behind a new name. Still the same.

sir james I Kev which paints work without etching the plastic? S.J.
The 2x paint looks promising. Some brands I use to use now etch the plastic. Change of formula for the envirement don'tcha know.
That is why they don't have the 24 hour dry paint I used on the shells SJ, They don't make it anymore. I had it on the shelf since 2006
When I put the first coat of Fusion on the raw shells it lifted some but I think it was because I put it on to heavy and wet. Not because of the paint. Some 400 sanding a week later and it was all good.
No not lifting. Some store spray paints actually eat into the plastic before it can dry. Not holes just messes up the plastic surface and leaves a rough finish.
Okay I got ya SJ, Yeah right a lot of paint will eat / melt the plastic. I think you will be safe with the two we have discussed here. Plastic safe. I always test it on a place where it won't show to be sure. Like inside the shell some place.
Contribute something worthwhile, you are your own worst enemy.
Please sitck to the point guys!
On the paint of the ALCO shells, Getting there but it is a fight with rattle cans.
SJ, no issues with the paint and plastic,,,,,,,,but.
The paint still leaked past the masking tape in three spots. Stuff is too wet coming out of the can no matter what you do. I thought I was back far enough and barely laid it on? I am going to do some touch-up then do the decals and close the paint shop after I put the stripe on the boxcar I shot today.
I did burnish the mask and thought I had it tight as I could, but there are so many little bumps and things it could not hold back the leaking. So a bit of the tape, paint and painter is the problem. It will all work out good if I only take videos as it is running.
So as long as it is running on the track and the perfects back off, it will be fine.
Pictures later.
