Thanks for starting SPH again this week. Its one of the things I enjoy about having you back posting again.
The Circus set is also one of my favorites. I managed to get one very early in my S gauge collecting phase. The photos below are some that I posted 10 years ago on Sunday Photo Fun. Some things never grow old or go out of style.
Its sad to think that the circus will only be coming to town in our created worlds from now on.

A thought struck me looking at those AF Circus Train photos.
I've read a number of articles in CTT over the years featuring husband-and-wife layout builders, and many of the wives mentioned having the Circus Train when they were little girls.
Do you suppose American Flyer swerved into producing a successful "Girls Train" without realizing it, while Lionel failed spectacularly with the "Lady Lionel?"
I mean, the AF Circus Train had a lot of what little girls like, it had action, it was colorful, it had animals, and it certainly had a bit of reality to it (if stretched a bit) while the "Lady Lionel" had no reality to it at all.
Thoughts on this, anyone?

NWF - I remember those shots!!! That is the kind of impression they left.
Some very nice looking AF trains. Only wish the circus would be around after May of this year. CSX may take a slight financial hit as some of the circus trains used to run on their tracks here in Florida.

Anything's possible. But personally I've never really been that enamoured with Circii. Though there was that circus show starring Mickey Dolenz and Batman #2...

Holy smoke, "Circus Boy!" I haven't thought of that show in years! Mickey Dolenz as Corky, Noah Beery Junior was in it as well. As I remember they even did a circus train episode.
Batman #2, you've got me there. I don't remember him.
"Batman and Robin", Columbia 1949, 15 episode serial starring Robert Lowery as Batman, Johnny Duncan as Robin, Lyle Talbot as Com. Gordon and Jane Adams as Vicky Vale. They battled "The Wizard" who looks a lot like Darth Vader's grand father. He invented a device to control machines and scenes in Gordon's office included a Lionel Hudson!
Batman #1 was Lewis Wilson and Robin #1 was Douglas Croft. They starred in the 1943 15 segmant Columbia serial that had J. Carrol Naish as the villian, a Japanese spy who practices mind control. Not very PC for 2017 but fascinating all the same. Oh, and the Batcave consists of a cave with a desk and a filing cabinet in it! By 1949 Batman upgraded the cave to include a second chair!
I think I saw one of those 1940's episodes once. If I remember correctly, they didn't really have a batmobile, they just had a regular car. In my opinion, Batman's mask looked more like a bird than a bat--it looked like it had a beak. Personally, I still prefer the 1960's Batman.
