Lionel Layout integrating with Warhammer 40K
Posted by Marx knex on Friday, December 30, 2016 9:54 PM

Over the past couple years as teenagers have allowed more space for my layout, they have also begun to invade it. I have found a wonderful synergy happening. Their warhammer 40K figures now occupy many open spaces in my O gauge town, the roofs of culvert loaders and platforms. Old structures are being torn down and new landscapes built with lots of input from now university aged children. Has anyone else found ways to blend these interests? I am new to forum so will figure out how to post some photos soon. Not many photos online of this synergy but maybe it is just hiding?

When our youngest son was in high school, he would 'invade' my wife's Dickens village (department 56 stuff) that she would set up at Christmas time.  We never knew from year to year what would show up - army men, lego characters, dinasaurs, ginat bugs, cowboys and indians, etc.

That is great. It is so much fun to just be more organic in how the whole family can be involved when we let other interests in. Lego is all over my layout and even sometimes found in odd displays or shelves around the house long forgotten.

How do others allow different combinations of new or classic toys?

Ever so often, Britains soldiers have "invaded" my layout's towns...usually in parade fashion.  I also get a kick out of seeing MINIONS showing up on others' layouts.

There's something in the wind that tells me my layout will be subject to an invasion by a Dalek attack squad before the week is out...Wink

Oh, a "Doctor Who" fan!  Well, Lady Firestorm wants me to ask you if you can figure out the current Peter Capaldi episodes.  Every time she watches one she gets the impression she's walked in on the middle of one instead of the beginning.

She misses David Tennent, he was cute, she says.

Me?  I'm still in mourning for Jon Pertwee's Doctor.

Tell her I haven't seen a "current" Doctor Who episode since 1989!  Laugh  Even then I only got to see what my local PBS station could afford to buy.  Nowadays I can only see what "Retro TV" decides to show.  Providing of course my local affiliate doesn't decide to preempt with Infomercials!  Bang Head  Usually somewhere in the middle of the story arc!  SoapBox

Sigh  I made 14 Daleks and a better Tardis.  Tomorrow I think they'll take a trip to Disneyland!  Laugh

Oh, those pesky Daleks!  They just won't go away!

"Defeated!  The Daleks are NEVER defeated!!!"

Hey, Lady Firestorm just had a thought.  If the Daleks fought the Borg, who would win?

I had to join this forum: http://www.projectdalek.com/ to get access to the plans for these.  A forum member there created the paper model parts so it wouldn't be right for me to pass them on.

What I can tell you is that they're 65lb cardstock from the neck down.  The head domes are faceted plastic beads that I shaped with my dremel tool.  The "eye" is a short ball headed pin inserted into a hole I drilled in the bead.  The "grabber" (plunger) is a pin with a larger diameter bead head ground in half.  Another section of the shaft of the pin creates the gun on the left side of the "shoulder section".  The "annunciators" on the head are cut from the points of round toothpicks that I painted red.

As designed these daleks build up to be about 5 inches tall.  I shrunk them down just a bit!  Big Smile

And Wayne, the borg would win because they can climb stairs!  Laugh

I've got Ultramarines, Valhallan Imperial Guard, and Sisters of Battle protecting key points on my layout from a necron incursion. Not quite scale, but count the rails.

It is Warhammer stuff. Google "Sisters of Battle" to see some of the characters.

OK, I just Googled "Sisters of Battle."

Oh, brother.  The last time I felt like this I'd just walked through the "Comics/ Graphic Novels" section of a Barnes and Noble.  Not only has the comics world left me far behind but it's left me choking on the dust!  I mean really, "Superman and Wonder Woman, Power Couple"?  Jeez!

I think I'll stay out of the loop, and say a few "Hail Marys" while I'm at it!

By the way, Lady Firestorm had six great-aunts who were Catholic nuns.  They would not be amused by "Sisters of Battle."  :-)
