The Peppersass Cog Railway engine - the locomotive that built the world's first mountain-climbing cog railway, the Mount Washington Cog Railway (The Cog) in New Hampshire - is celebrating its 150th birthday this year.
Peppersass has left its home in the White Mountains of New Hampshire to tour the US and generate awareness of The Cog and its 150th anniversary in 2019. Visitors will have an opportunity to get up close to see and learn about this wondrous and historic engineering marvel.
I sure wish I was going, but I'll tell you what, if you see a big guy, say about 6'2" who looks like a PO'd Santa Claus hanging around the N gauge exhibits, guess what? You've just seen Lady Firestorm's brother Big B!
I and others have tried to get him to move over to the fabulous world of O gauge, but what can I say? He prefers the "Dark Side" of N gauge.

He could have gone to the even "Darker Side" and chosen Z Gauge.
Yeah, he's got Z gauge stuff too, but considering he had 350 locomotives and about 900 cars in N gauge he couldn't go all the way.
I told you N gauge was the "Dark Side!"

For 2017, the Boothbay Railway Village will be bringing a live steam engine to the Railroad Hobby Show. The locomotive was built by the H K Porter Company in Pittsburgh in 1925 for the Raritan Copper Company in New Jersey. H K Porter specialized in industrial locomotives, and the Boothbay locomotive was one of eleven owned by Raritan Copper. The 2-foot gauge engine will be set up outdoors at the Railroad Hobby Show, operating on approximately 100 feet of track under its own steam power. Boothbay Railway Village operates a fully certified boiler shop and completed restoration of the H K Porter locomotive in 2014.

I was interested to see "Marklin" and "Goering" in the same sentence above. The correct spelling of the former is "Maerklin"; "Goering" is correct. In German, the "ae" and "oe" are usually replaced by "ä" and "ö", that is, by turning the "e" into two dots over the other letter. This changes the pronunciation from "mark-lin" to "merk-lin" and from "gore-ing" to "grrr-ing." The 2-letter versions are easier to type on English-language keyboards; but Germans use them too, when they want an archaic effect.

Don't know if I will get over there for the train show, but was over there today. Parking today probably a whole lot easier than will be for the train show. Anyhow if you go, enjoy....biggest train show I have ever attended, and have enjoyed the times I have gone...
