I have a Lionel RW transformer 110 watt 115 volt.  The terminals on the back are ( top row  A  -  U  -  B )(bottom row  c  -  d).  The transformer also has a direction button and a whistle button.  I am unable to determine  which output post, if any is controlled by the whistle button.  I would appreciate any help with this matter.

Thank You

Steve

Welcome

Welcome Steve, I am not a pro on this but as I understand it none of the post are driven by the whistle button. What it does is change the output to the rail power in a way that the whistle relay in the engine or tender will activate and send track power to the whistle so it will blow.  There are all kinds of electrical explanations for it but what I said is it in a nutshell. If you need more I am sure some of the guys here can fill in the blanks.
Hope that helps.

Welcome Steve,

You may have to play with the RW transformer to see which terminals control the track power. The whistle or direction feature work with the variable outputs to the track and don't have separate hook-ups, you may have to have the track power up to half before the whistle will work and with the direction button you should use a slow speed with the engine or you might damage the reverse unit or derail the engine.

The RW may have accessory voltage outputs, not 100% sure as I had one but have not used it in a while.

The instructions for hooking up the transformer are printed on the transformer.  Connect terminal U to the center rail and either A or B to the outside rail.  The transformer shows you what voltage you will get between either A & U or B & U.  The whistle and direction button work with either connection.

The other terminals on the back of the transformer are fixed voltages as shown on the transformer and are for powering accessories.
