Unusual Marx pieces. Are they documented?
Posted by tinplatacis on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 10:11 AM

I have a Marx set that has a 495 that had a black boiler and has maroon Marlines sideboards, a black NYC wedge tender, a blue B&O 555 boxcar, and an all red NYC 556 caboose. The caboose interior, boxcar doors, and underframes are brass colored, the set is unmodified from its original status with the exception of my rebuilding the postwar motor and stripping the boiler. From what I have just recently learned the brass frames are unusual, and I don't recollect ever seeing the maroon Marlines sideboards. Are these documented? Has anyone else ever seen similar pieces?

Posting photos doesn't cooperate with me, even following the instructions, otherwise I would post them. If someone else could post them for me, that would be helpful.

I didn't researce this question but I can tell you brass/copper color material was used on quite a bit of Pre WW2 rolling stock. Esp. frames. And Marlines was also used on engines.
