Back to the (O Gauge) Future Track Plan - CTT July 2016

Hello everyone!

Whenever CTT publishes track plans of featured layouts, I tend to compare them to the actual photos taken.  Luckily, CTT's practice is to number each photograph.  A corresponding number is then usually placed inside an arrow around the track plan.  That arrow signifies the location from where the picture was taken, and the direction the camera was pointed.

While matching the photographs of Paul Jann's layout with the track plan, I noticed a huge discrepancy between them when it came to picture #2 on page 44.  Picture #2 shows a NYC engine on a girder-type bridge about to go through a bascule bridge over some water.  The track plan shows no such place on the layout.  Also, that same picture shows a Santa Fe engine pulling a train under a truss bridge.  Next to, and parallel to the Santa Fe, it appears a bay window caboose is going under that same bridge in the opposite direction.  Neither of those tracks is shown in the track plan. In fact there is no room in the track plan for the Santa Fe engine/bay window caboose double track to run alongside the concrete-supported elevated track in the top right of the picture.

I know it's not an easy job to create track plans, but that section in the plan is not even close.  Is it possible to get a corrected track plan somewhere on-line?

Thanks

Tony

Hi Tony,

Thanks for your email and careful study of track plan printed with the article on Paul Jann's layout in the July issue.

Unfortunately, the bascule bridge was omitted from the outermost track. Also, the double-track main line with the Santa Fe diesels on it and freight train alongside was left out. We apologize for the mistakes and thank you for bringing it to our attention.

I appreciate you verifying the discrepancy.  However you didn't really answer my question.  Is it possible to get a corrected track plan either on-line or in print?  I really liked Paul Jann's layout, and I'm curious to where both the double-track and bascule bridge lead.
