Flasher components for Lionel 154 crossing signal

Several years ago I assembled some flashers using components and instructions provided by Bob Nelson in a 2003 post. His post provided the Radio Shack part numbers including 276-1152 (100VDC, 1500mA) for the bridge rectifier and 272-958 (1000 microfarads, 35WVDC) for the capacitor.

I have been asked to assemble some more flashers and have learned Radio Shack no longer offers these two components. Two different stores were unable to tell me what parts are acceptable as substitutes. Could someone take a look at the Radio Shack website and let me know if they offer substitutes? One clerk suggested part 2720059 for the capacitor and 2760268 for the rectifier as possibilities.

Thank you, swede

The clerk's suggestion of 2760268 for the rectifier is good.  The only difference from the older part is a much higher voltage rating, which was already much higher than needed.

The capacitor he suggested, 2720059, has however 1/1000 of the capacitance you need.  The part to get is 2721032.

Thank you, Bob. I did feel comfortable with the recommended 2760268 rectifier but not the 2720059 capacitor. I questioned the clerk about the 1.0 thinking it meant just what it said. The clerk was adamant that it meant 1000. As for your recommendation to use the 2721032 capacitor, I find I did use that part previously, it continues to be stocked and is locally available. I'll swing by the store this evening.

Thank you, again, swede
