Would like to do some work on smoke chamber of 2046 loco. A bit puzzled on how to remove cab. Removing truck from e-unit end appears to loosen that section. As for the front of the engine ???? Someone put us on the right track.
Purchased CTT's loco maintenance digital section which shows to work on the guts, but not how to get to them ....
There is 1 screw under the front truck. Remove that and the 2 under the cab and the body will lift right off. Lionel used 2 basic chassis the other one has 2 screws in front and 2 in back. Either one is easy. I don't have one to look at but they are really not that hard to open.

Thanks SJ ......Yes, that recessed screw under the front truck. Along with a screw on top of the cab. Appreciate your help. Not hard at all
Glad to help.
The only ones I know that are a pain in the,,are the 675,2025,2035. Can be done of course but the re-assembly requires a bad word or two. It has always been rumered that assembly was why Lionel quit making them.
I've heard this for years, and the two 675s I have have never given me any trouble to take apart and reassemble. and my Father's side of ther family is well renowned for our......colorful language when working on stuff.
