if you goto there site it explains it, gives you a small magnet to attach to a inside wheel and a reed switch to go with it. It really is esay to do. Click on manual then you need to go down to page 19 to get Steam instructions including the above mentioned.

another option would be contact Electric rail road www.electricrr.com as they have sound boards ( don't need to add tmcc) for $89.95 but you pick up steam and chug sound also. along with your bell and whistle and they have like 5 different boards

how would that work without any kind of trigger for the chug chug sounds? my Williams only has an electronic e-unit & the tender only has the true blast II. you can tell i have no idea about how to upgrade & retro fit sound systems. however, i would love to have sound in a few that i have.

Good luck!  Should it come to it, the True-Blast II steam unit costs $69.95, at least according to the Williams 2015 catalog. That's not bad for circuit board units.   Interesting, it only mentions whistle and bell, no other sounds.

I'd contact Williams and see if the unit's still under warranty.  The problem with printed circuit boards (take it from one who works with them) is they could last for years or blow tomorrow.  You never can tell.

I don't have any experience with True-Blast II steam units, just the old True-Blast ones.  I've never had a problem with one of those.  Worst comes to worst you can probably retro-fit an old unit into the tender if you're current unit's out of warranty.  I think the old units are still available, just the basic bell sound and the "long, long, short, long" grade crossing whistle.

i'm disappointed, my Williams pink girls steam engines whistle stopped working tonight. it has been a few months sense i had ran my trains & i was running the train for just a minute or two & the tender just started making noise. i stopped it, checked out everything & started it again, & when i hit the whistle controller it just made noise. i took it apart & checked all the wiring & everything looked fine, it just gave it up. is this normal out of Williams true blast II whistle units? i hate to buy another for it to just go out as well. what's really bad is this engine doesn't hardly have any run time at all on it. has anyone upgraded their true blast II whistle & have one they would sell? i'm very disappointed.
