Reversing Units
Posted by cheapclassics on Monday, April 8, 2002 10:00 PM
I had two standard engines with pendulum reversing units. The one on the 8E works reasonably well, but I had the one on the 10E replaced with a three-position unit(the 10E was a restoration). The 10 now buzzes all the time, which I guess is inherent on those mechanical units. The question I have is could a newer, electronic E-unit be used instead, or does the higher voltage requirements of the standard engines burn out the electronic E-units? Thanks to all who can help.

Hi Michael,

Nice to see you on the forum. The electronic E-unit should work fine in your Standard gauge loco. You wouldn't be reversing at maximium speed (voltage) anyway, right?
