Hey there fellow railroaders. I have a small question on a train. I know a little, but nobody knows everything so why not ask others.
I recently seen a 1995 Lionel YellowBelly Hudson. The train looks nice, but is it worth the 650 dollar price tag. Can anyone tell me the pros and cons too.
I looked up things about it, but you know how the web is. Also, can the train handle a considerable amount of coaches. I don't have a whole lot but the
rollingstock but I have older and heavier ones than traditonal cars of today. That is basically my question on the train though nothing to crazy just a little help.

Can you provide a Lionel part number for this?
May be a help in seeing what you have.
If it is the 6-18043 there are better deals on E-bay than $650. That cost looks to be list price new.

Even new in box to me it seems high. Kevin showed some which I believe there where like 2 new in box for less

Thanks for reading this post, and the warm welcome to the community. I found this website and supposedly the the train is factory new, but Im sure you know how that gose.
I pulled out my "Standard Catalog of Lionel Trains 1970-2000) to see what I could find out for you.
According to the book, published in 2008, a 18403 C&O "Yellobelly" in "like new" condition (C-8) runs for about $700. In C-7 condition ( very, very minor wear) it runs for about $600. New in the box and not run at all should be over the $700 a C-8 condition unit would run.
I believe these were full-scale O gauge engines, so it should pull as many cars as you think you can get away with, but I could be wrong on that. If it's full scale you'd better have wide-radius curves, 042 or bigger, or chances are it won't run on your layout.
Sometimes you have to take the prices in these collector books with a grain of salt. What the engine's worth is really what someone's willing to pay for it. Only you know whether you want to pay $650 for it. Honestly, I couldn't afford it.

another way I decide on a price is I goto Ebay O scale trains put in the product number in the search then hit enter then click on advance up to the right of the search box and when that opens up I click on sold and then hit enter and I can see what recent sales have been and I see right now low of $320 and high of $450 so you need to decide and some of these where mint in box or new in box
