Pre York Train Shows
Posted by Major on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 5:10 PM

Stopped by the four pre York Train shows today.  IMHO it appears that many of the vendors will be taking most of their stuff home. Saw lots of people but very few were purchasing anything. There are some bargins to be had for sure and I picked up a like new Flyer 21085 Pacific loco with the Milwaukee road herald for $85.00 and a 648A Work caboose for $10.00. However there were more items priced in the stratosphere. In the last few years I have had better luck buying my trains on e-bay than at the train shows. I'll be at the TCA show on Thursday and Friday morning.

It's been my experience that whether a show is good or not is kind of subjective,  be it an antique show, a train show, a gun show, or any kind of show.

If you find what you're looking for, it was a good show.  If you didn't but the show was entertaining and interesting it was a good show.

I typically won't pass up on any of the aforementioned shows in my area because hey, you never know do you?

However about the only things I get at gun shows anymore are heart attacks!  Talk about stratospheric prices!

As a seller at the Wyndham Gardens pre-show, I can say that I sold half of the stuff I brought with me and was very pleased with sales.  I left 6 large empty cardboard boxes behind, when I left.  I sold a mix of modern Lionel to prewar hafner, Flyer, Bing and Ives.  I had two tables inside, plus I opened the basement level by having a bunch of items on top of my bankers boxes on the floor.

I was very pleased with sales.  I did not and will not sell at the TCA show at the fairgrounds, as my experience is that sales are not as good at that show.  I spent Thursday and Friday morning walking around the TCA show shopping and left Friday about 11 am for home.
