Cars/Trucks to go with a Standard Gauge layout

I've got my little SG layout under the tree this year, but it occurs to me that
a toy car or truck or two would look good under there with the
trains/buildings/people/trees/signals, etc.

A quick eBay search reveals a few 1/26 vehicles that look old-fashioned, but
there's little in the areas I searched that are actually authentic toys around
the age of the trains.

What do you SG folks use? What came from that time period in approximately the right size (within generous tolerances)?

This is a subject that doesn't get much coverage in the hobby press for SG (O
and S get all the attention). Surely there are appropriate toys from the same
period (or at least ropros of them) that would look good with my Lionel and
IVES trains.

I would think that 1/24 scale cars - trucks would look great for you. Try www.diecastdirect.com and sort by scale

I agree the 1/24 size is probably the way to go, but finding suitable vehicles is tough. The appropriate year range would be 20s and 30s, but most cars and trucks are more recent or they have a brand name on them (John Deere, Texaco, Coke, etc.). The vehicles MTH used on their 234 and 534 flat cars were available separately from another source, but that is about all I have. I think National Motor Mint made some 1/32 cars which may work if you do not have the MTH flats.
