This sounds like a variant of the British "fiddle yard" - a portable section of railroad that can be temporarly connected to the rest of the layout for storage of cars during an operating session.

Anyone use an appendage?

I've got a point-to-point design but from time to time will be tempted to do continuous running. Has anyone ever attempted to design a turnaround loop appendage that attaches to a wall layout that can be taken down and stored to keep the aisleway free for foot traffic.

I'm considering following the National Capital Trackers module design for the appendage. It's got to be fairly light and easy to store away.
