Thanks you very much. White it is. I guess I'll take the frame to a paint store and compare the white under where the shell was mounted to get an unfaded version of the original paint.

My 8654 & 8655 are in condition 7 or better and they are White.
I'd pick white over creme. Use a clean part of your chassis as a guide. I remember going into a paint store looking for white paint. There are endless whites available.
It's been years since I've repainted trains. When I did, I liked the paints sold by Charles Woods: http://www.trainenamel.com/The only white I see on his site is #45N white. If you write to them, maybe they can make a recommendation.
I am refurbishing a Lionel B&M GP9 #6-8654 and would like to know what the true color of the handrails and walkways of this diesel is. My engine has developed rust spots on these areas and I plan to repaint them. The way the color of the handrails and walk-way looks now is off-white or a creme-color. The white on the plastic engine shell is definately white. Would I be correct in repainting the metal parts white?
