Most of the stuff I have is "D" station wire.

LOL... When someone mentions "bell wire", I think of single conductor, 18 gauge solid wire with a plastic jacket. I think it was used to wire door bells. I have a bunch of 50 ft spools, purchased from the liquidation auction of a local electrical supply house. It was old stock when I purchased the stuff over twenty years ago.

Telephone company refers to it as "JK" wire, used for runs from jack to jack, and back to protection connection.  4 conductor red/green/yellow/black at 24 gauge.  It is the old stuff, since replace with Cat-5 wire.  (41 yrs. with Ma Bell, retired)

I have never seen multi-conductor bell wire!

It's actually telephone station cable.

I have never seen multi-conductor bell wire!

If it's any help: the original wire was 22 gauge.
Flat reproduction wire is available, but it is expensive.
I don't even bother to rewire uncoupling tracks for resale any longer. The reproduction wire costs almost as much as a rewired uncoupling track would sell for around here.

I have historically used 4 conductor bell wire for runs up to ~ 12' from the panel to the track.

1- Custom fit the wire length according to your layout. There is no preferred length. The wire length Lionel gives on their controllers may be too short or too long.

2- There is no difference in the type of wire you use, as long as it is of sufficient gauge. Flat ribbon cable to replace the original type is available from dealers.

UCS Remote Controller and wiring
Posted by AudioMixer on Sunday, February 28, 2016 7:07 PM

I've got a few of the UCS Remote controllers and the wiring is falling apart.

Since I have a bunch of other wire that electrically would seem to work here's a couple of questions:

1-If you were using one of these controllers, what would be your preferred length of wire (push button controller going to the remote control track section) ?

2-Would round wire make a difference (vs. flat) ?

Thanks for the input !
